Ihavandhoo fish processing factory to attain significant regional status

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the fish processing factory planned for development in Haa Alifu Atoll would achieve significant regional status. He made the remarks speaking at a gathering with the people of Ihavandhoo.

Prior to engaging with the community, the President held meetings with the Ihavandhoo Island Council and the Women's Development Committee (WDC).

During the community meeting, the President unveiled the government's ambitious plans for Ihavandhoo, recognising it as the primary fisheries island in the region. He affirmed the establishment of regional-level services in Ihavandhoo and committed to realising the long-awaited dream of establishing a fish factory on the island.

Highlighting the past unfulfilled promises, the President noted that the previous government had pledged a similar project for Ihavandhoo but failed to bring practical characteristics to fruition, adding only USD130,000 was allocated from state budget to such a huge project. Considering the expanding fisheries sector in the north, the President deemed a small-scale project inadequate and revealed the current government's vision of implementing a USD10 million project on a contractor investment basis.

The President outlined comprehensive plans for Ihavandhoo's development, including the swift introduction of dialysis services, the establishment of a high-quality hospital, and the implementation of a modern waste management facility. Infrastructure improvements, such as road construction and the establishment of a multi-sports complex, were also highlighted.

Ensuring a strategic and prioritised approach, the President affirmed a commitment to continuing the development works in Ihavandhoo in the order of priority.
