President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has unveiled plans to inaugurate a significant eco-tourism project in Kendhikulhudhoo, Noonu Atoll. The President made this announcement during a meeting with the residents of Kendhikulhudhoo.
In his address to the Kendhikulhudhoo community, the President emphasised that the natural environment of the island could serve as a source of economic benefits. This initiative aims to create numerous opportunities for the islanders to generate income while remaining on the island.
Highlighting the exceptional beauty and uniqueness of Kendhikulhudhoo compared to other villages in the country, the President identified a significant opportunity for expanding the eco-tourism sector.
The President shared that the Visitor Economy Council, established by the Cabinet, is dedicated to exploring opportunities for tourism expansion. The eco-tourism project in Kendhikulhudhoo will be a pivotal part of the council's efforts.
Addressing the need to facilitate the utilisation of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and historical assets, the President acknowledged the interest of tourists in such experiences.
Furthermore, the President pledged to launch multiple infrastructure development projects in Kendhikulhudhoo throughout the year. Recognising the gaps in existing laws pertaining to these issues, he assured the government's commitment to addressing them, including the development of housing units and provision of soft loans.
Concluding his statement, the President affirmed his dedication to improving roads and enhancing health and education systems on all islands.
Kendhikulhudhoo boasts a population exceeding 1,400 people.
