President to allocate Maaddoo for Eydhafushi development

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has decided to allocate Maaddoo, an uninhabited island, for both residential settlement and economic activities benefiting the residents of Eydhafushi, Baa Atoll. He made the announcement while speaking at a gathering with the residents of Eydhafushi.

Speaking at the gathering, President Dr. Muizzu outlined plans for the government to establish one of seven urban centres in Eydhafushi, which currently boasts a population exceeding 3,000. He emphasised the government's commitment to both short-term and long-term development initiatives across the Maldives, underscoring the pivotal role of the island in fostering sustainable growth for its inhabitants.

Additionally, President Dr. Muizzu highlighted the significance of Eydhafushi as the largest reclaimed island in the nation. As such, he disclosed intentions to allocate Maaddoo into Eydhafushi for expanded development opportunities. He said that the necessary documentation for the integration will be transferred to the Eydhafushi Island Council within the upcoming week, initiating collaborative efforts between the government and the council to formulate a comprehensive development strategy.

Furthermore, President Dr. Muizzu pledged government support to enhance healthcare and education services in the island. He affirmed the administration's commitment to fulfilling pledged infrastructure improvements, including the construction of modernised roads, thereby facilitating greater connectivity and accessibility for the island residents.
