MPS begins towing illegally parked vehicles

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has initiated the removal of illegally parked vehicles and those left unattended for an extended period. The action comes in response to an earlier announcement by MPS, citing concerns that illegally parked vehicles impede the movement of public transport, pedestrians, and emergency vehicles.

MPS is urging residents in Male’, Hulhumale’ Phase 1, and Hulhumale’ Phase 2 to utilise designated parking zones to avoid inconvenience. The police have intensified monitoring of illegal parking, focusing on areas such as the green zone, public transport roads, road corners, street corners, and school zones.

Furthermore, the police emphasised that legal action will be taken against vehicles parked near office buildings, hospitals, mosques, facilities for individuals with special needs, and in front of public houses and garages, hindering their access.

Temporary suspension of parking stickers in Male’ City last January aimed to facilitate the establishment of additional parking zones. However, numerous complaints have been lodged since then, citing traffic congestion and difficulties in road usage due to vehicles parked on both sides of the roads.
