Creation of separate agricultural ministry proves to be beneficial

The Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare has emphasised the positive impact of establishing a dedicated ministry for the development of the agricultural industry.

During a media address, the ministry highlighted the ongoing projects and progress achieved since its inception. The decision to create a separate ministry came as part of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's initiative to enhance the agricultural sector, separating it from the Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources.

The State Minister of Agriculture and Animal Welfare reiterated the ministry's commitment to increasing the budget for developmental purposes. Notably, an additional USD 2.9 million has been allocated, marking the highest investment ever in the agricultural sector.

The ministry emphasized the importance of extensive research conducted to enhance the agricultural industry, particularly considering the limited land availability in the country. Through advanced techniques such as hydroponics, four experimental models were implemented at the Hanimaadhoo Agricultural Centre.

Assuring that the research outcomes will guide the identification of the most effective model, the ministry aims to introduce and promote it among individuals engaged in the agricultural industry.
