Parliament should cooperate as much as holding government accountable

Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources Ahmed Shiyam has affirmed Parliament should collaborate with the government while also ensuring accountability. He made these remarks during a ceremony with residents in Naifaru, Lhaviyani Atoll.

Minister Shiyam asserted that Parliament should extend necessary cooperation to the ruling administration to facilitate development for the citizens. While acknowledging that one of Parliament's key roles is to enforce government accountability, he emphasized the significant role elected members of Parliament play in government operations.

Furthermore, Minister Shiyam highlighted the importance of expediting the passage of bills to implement the government's manifesto.

During his speech, the Minister criticised opposition members of Parliament, questioning the need for negative judgments on cabinet members appointed by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, who was elected by the majority of the people. This criticism came in the context of three cabinet ministers appointed by the President not receiving approval from Parliament.

In conclusion, Minister Shiyam urged the Parliament to provide the government with the necessary cooperation and collaboration.
