The Male' City Council has revealed a total of 60 tons of waste were removed from the streets of Male' on March 10.
There has been a significant rise in complaints regarding inefficient waste disposal following the preparations for the Holy month of Ramadan. This has led to challenges for both pedestrians and motorists, with the waste predominantly consisting of household appliances, furniture, and general garbage.
In response to these concerns, the Male' City Council has initiated a cleaning campaign to address the issues. The council reported that waste has been collected in 27 areas in Male' so far, with ongoing efforts in 17 areas that experienced inefficient waste disposal and 10 large-sized areas in Male'.
The Environment Protection Agency (EPA) has also expressed apprehension about the inadequate waste handling, emphasising the potential negative impact on the environment and the possibility of various health issues.
Additionally, the Waste Management Cooperation (WAMCO) has taken measures to facilitate easy and efficient waste disposal by allowing people to discard waste at designated transfer stations without charge, a policy enforced for a period of three days.
In conclusion, WAMCO offers the CAPS service for household waste, utilising a small pick-up for collection.
