STELCO says electricity usage increases during Ramadan

Managing Director of the State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) Hussain Fahumy has disclosed the electricity consumption in the Greater Male' region during the Holy month of Ramadan has surged by 10MW compared to the average monthly consumption.

In a social media post, Fahumy referred to forecasts by the Maldives Meteorological Service indicating sweltering hot weather during Ramadan in the country. He shared insights into the company's electricity usage statistics, revealing that while the monthly consumption typically stands at 94MW, it has now risen to 104.7MW.

Fahumy emphasised the importance of caution in electricity usage, urging residents to conserve energy and minimize costs by reducing consumption unless absolutely necessary. As the electricity service provider for the Greater Male' region, STELCO is ensuring preparedness to provide uninterrupted power during this heightened period of consumption.

The Maldives Meteorological Service has announced that March and April of this year are expected to be particularly hot, likely contributing to the increased electricity consumption during Ramadan compared to other months.
