President urges MPS to prioritise accessibility, compassion in service

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has urged the Maldives Police Service (MPS) to prioritise accessibility, community engagement, and compassion in their service delivery. He made the statement while addressing a special meeting with MPS personnel. Upon his arrival to the meeting, the President was received with a guard of honor.

Speaking at the meeting, President Dr. Muizzu pledged to prioritise the development of both the individual officers and the institutional capabilities of the MPS. He also highlighted the significance of continuous personal and professional growth for police officers, ensuring their technical proficiency and effectiveness.

Additionally, President Dr. Muizzu outlined initiatives to expand MPS infrastructure across all islands of the Maldives, aiming to provide comprehensive police coverage nationwide. He also urged the MPS to deliver services that are not only effective but also empathetic and responsive to the community's needs.

Meanwhile, Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan outlined the key objectives of the meeting, including combating drug trafficking and gang-related crimes, safeguarding against illegal immigration, and ensuring equitable allocation of government resources for public safety. He stressed the importance of creating a secure environment where citizens of all ages can travel on the streets safely.

Moreover, Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau reiterated the commitment of the MPS to provide round-the-clock service without discrimination. He also emphasised the importance of delivering high-quality service based on strategic planning and measurable outcomes.

During the meeting, President Dr. Muizzu introduced the Strategic Policing Requirement, a framework designed to hold the Minister of Homeland Security and Technology accountable for the operations of the MPS. The formal document outlines objectives for capacity building, crime prevention, and protection of individual rights, aligning with the overarching policies of the President and the responsibilities defined by law.
