Ruling Coalition slams previous gov't for lack of sincerity on housing issue

The ruling coalition, consisting of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and People's National Congress (PNC) has criticized the previous administration's efforts to address the housing issue, stating that they lacked sincerity.

During a press conference led by the PPM-PNC spokesperson for the upcoming parliamentary election, Heena Waleed emphasised President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's commitment to combatting the housing crisis in the Maldives. She stated that providing housing for every citizen in need within the presidential term is one of the central policies of the government.

Heena highlighted the proactive approach of President Dr. Muizzu in addressing the housing issue, mentioning ongoing land reclamation projects at Fushidhiggaru falhu and Giraavarufalhu. She also mentioned the government's efforts in formulating strategic laws to address the housing crisis, including the presentation of the Real Estate and Social Housing bill to the parliament.

Despite the previous government's parliamentary majority, Heena remarked that little progress was made in internalizing the housing issue, with their efforts being perceived as insincere.

The upcoming parliamentary election is scheduled for April 21, with a total of 386 candidates contesting across 93 constituencies. Candidates from the PPM-PNC coalition will be contesting in 89 constituencies respectively.
