Male' City saw no development within past five years: President

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has emphasised that despite the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) holding a supermajority in both government and Parliament, the party missed the chance to advance the development of Male' City over the past five years.

Speaking at a campaign rally in support of a ruling coalition candidate for the upcoming parliamentary election, President Dr. Muizzu criticised the previous administration for its failure to capitalise on opportunities for the progress of Male'.

Additionally, President Dr. Muizzu pointed out that during his tenure as mayor, the Male' City Council took significant steps towards the improvement of the city. He, however, lamented that the previous government's efforts have fallen short of addressing the needs of the citizens. He highlighted an instance where land plots was allocated near the city following the recent presidential election, but he expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome, stating it was not in the best interest of the citizens.

President Dr. Muizzu warned that if MDP secures another parliamentary term, the challenges faced by the government in recent months will persist, leading to further hardships for the citizens. He, however, reassured the public that urgent measures to address their needs are underway. He pledged to kickstart housing construction projects and facilitate access to soft loans. In addition, he reiterated his commitment to develop Gulhifalhu and Giraavarufalhu, pledging to resolve Male's housing crisis within the next five years.
