Zakat collected amounts to USD285,000 within first 20 days of Ramadan

Maldives Zakat House has released statistics indicating the collection of USD 285 thousand as Zakat-al-Fitr within the initial 20 days of Ramadan. To streamline the payment process, various arrangements have been implemented, including online platforms and services at the Islamic Ministry's Hall.

Most individuals opted to make payments in the form of rice, with 63,389 people contributing zakat in various types of rice. Additionally, 14,567 individuals opted for ordinary basmati rice, while 10,779 people chose super-premium basmati rice. Some payments were also made in terms of food staples like wheat and wheat flour.

Zakat al-Fitr, obligatory for all Muslims, serves as financial assistance for those in need after Ramadan. Mandated in the second year of Hijra, it applies to all Muslim community members, irrespective of age or status, provided they meet certain conditions. Maldives Zakat House was established to raise public awareness and collect zakat payments.
