Zakat al-Fitr disbursed at a rate of USD 518

The distribution of Zakat al-Fitr at a rate of USD 518 per person has officially commenced.

Remarkably, Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed highlighted a significant increase in the number of people who paid Zakat. He further emphasized that as a result, Zakat al-Fitr is now being disbursed at a rate of USD 518 per person for those registered under the Registry for the Poor and Needy in Male' City. It was also revealed that 4,978 individuals were registered respectively.

Moreover, Minister Shaheem underscored that families affected by their husbands' imprisonment will receive aid through Zakat al-Fitr. Additionally, he confirmed that children residing in Kudakudhinge Hiyaa and individuals in the Home for People with Special Needs will also benefit from the distribution of Zakat al-Fitr.

Ministry of Islamic Affairs has also begun distributing food staples collected as Zakat- al-Fitr.

Zakat al-Fitr, obligatory for all Muslims, is intended for those in need of financial assistance after the Holy month of Ramadan. It is mandated in the second year of Hijra and applies to all members of the Muslim community, regardless of age or status. However, certain conditions must be met, including having enough funds to provide for dependents with food and basic essentials on the day and night of Eid.
