President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has revealed plans to launch a housing project in Nilandhoo, Faafu atoll, aiming to develop the island into an urban centre. The president made these remarks during the discussions held with the Nilandhoo Island Council. During his official visit to the atoll, the president also met with the Faafu Atoll Council as well.
Speaking at the meeting, Nilandhoo Council praised the government's initiative of enhancing the island's airport while requesting the project to be completed expeditiously. The council additionally appealed to resolve the issue of sewage and water systems of the islands, establish an Islamic Centre, and also to commence the road development and housing project. Furthermore, the council requested the establishment of a new building for the council administration while emphasising the importance of bringing modern advancements within the health sector. It further highlighted the crucial role of ferry-systems and parks for social cohesion as well as economic growth. During the meeting, Faafu Atoll Council also voiced their concerns and stressed the areas vital for development.
The President provided updates on the government's ongoing initiatives to address the issues raised by the council through the ministers present at the meeting. He assured them that their concerns would be addressed, demonstrating his commitment to addressing the developmental needs of Nilandhoo.
