Reliefs given to essential services reduces burden of modern issues

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has prioritised to optimise and amend government policies to ensure public convenience. Within the first five months since President Dr. Muizzu assumed office, he put concentrated efforts to achieve this overarching goal, aiming to enhance the prosperity of residents.

One of the biggest initiatives taken by President Dr. Muizzu targetting to accomplish his commitments is reducing the rental costs of the housing units allocated to individuals by the government. This includes the reduction of the cost of Hiyaa Flat project to seven years while modifying the regulations regarding repayment of approximately USD 13,000 on an average from each household, which was initially taken by households to complete the finishing touches. While initially the rental fees ranged over USD 454 is now reduced to USD 258. Likewise, the down payment of Vinares Flats were also reduced by 50%, resulting in a decrease of monthly rent to USD 272. Additionally, the rental prices were decreased to USD 216, for those residing in housing units situated in atolls as well. This significant decision purports to reduce housing prices to the most deserving individuals, considering their income levels and sufficiency.

Another remarkable decision of President Dr. Muizzu includes implementing relief measures to the loans issued by the previous administration during the COVID-19 pandemic. Within that period, USD 22.9 million was issued to small and medium enterprises under the Recovery Loan Scheme. However, the president waived all interest accrued on loans issued by the previous administration during the pandemic. Furthermore, decisions have been made to extend the period of repayment to ten years. This primary purpose of this measure aims to strengthen and improve the economic stance while encouraging individuals to remain self-sufficient.

Despite every Ram dan posing citizens to financial constraints due to the increasing utility bills and essential food items, President Dr. Muizzu imposed measures to control the prices while providing residents a Ramadan Discount to the bills as well. With the assistance of State Trading Organisation (STO), arrangements were made to ensure the prices of essential food items remain stable in the market.

Another noteworthy initiative of President Dr. Muizzu was announcing the last ten days of Ramadan as public holidays. This unprecedented relief aims to facilitate individuals in performing prayers and acts of worship during the nights while reducing the burden of early morning work. Previously, the maximum relief provided by the government was the reduction of working hours in addition to the first day of Ramadan announced as a public holiday.

Additionally, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has forgiven parking fines totalling USD182,000 issued between September 5, 2023 and November 16, 2023. Efforts are underway to address the illegal parking issue.

The administration under President Dr. Muizzu focuses to ensure public convenience and prosperity. In addition to the reliefs given, efforts are ongoing to formulate policies and regulations such that it benefits the public to the maximum.
