Maldives has welcomed over 168,000 tourists in April, this year, marking a notable 2.6% increase compared to the same period in 2023.
The Ministry of Tourism's daily update report indicated a steady rise in tourist arrivals, with a total of 794,109 visitors so far in 2024, reflecting a notable 12.3% increase over the corresponding period last year.
The breakdown of tourist arrivals by country highlights China as the leading source, with over 87,000 tourists visiting Maldives, followed closely by Russia, the UK, and Italy.
Total tourists arrivals:
- January: 192,385 tourists
- February: 217,393 tourists
- March: 194,227 tourists
- April: 168,647 tourists
- May 1-4: 19,021 tourists
The breakdown is as follows:
- China: 87,168 tourists
- Russia: 80,160 tourists
- UK: 76,823 tourists
- Italy: 71,536 tourists
Meanwhile, Chinese tourists alone account for 11% of the total arrivals, showcasing the significance of this market for the Maldives' tourism sector.
The Ministry's statistics further reveal that on average, Maldives receives approximately 5,365 tourists daily, with an average stay duration of 7 days per visitor.
With over 700,000 tourists having visited Maldives thus far in 2024, the government aims to attract two million visitors by year-end, setting an ambitious target for the tourism industry. To support this goal, the present administration has reinforced several initiatives aimed at further enhancing and bolstering the tourism sector in the Maldives.
