Bank of Maldives (BML) has set a Guinness World Records title after 314 people snorkelled simultaneously at a single venue in the Maldives.
The record-breaking attempt took place at Niva Kurumba Maldives as part of an environmental awareness initiative aimed at highlighting the importance of protecting the country's fragile coral reefs and marine ecosystems.
Participants, including BML staff and resort guests, gathered beneath the surface to experience the Maldives' reefs and promote greater awareness of the need for ocean conservation.
The event was organised around the idea of turning environmental protection into a shared experience, encouraging individuals and communities to take an active role in safeguarding the ocean ecosystems on which the Maldives depends.
Following official verification, the Guinness World Records certificate was presented to BML Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Mohamed Shareef and Niva Kurumba Maldives General Manager Morten Junior.
The achievement forms part of BML's wider environmental efforts through its ENV POS initiative. Under the programme, the bank contributes part of its earnings from transactions made through BML Point of Sale terminals towards environmental projects, at no additional cost to customers or merchants.
Through ENV POS, BML has worked with organisations including Parley Maldives and the Maldives Ocean Plastics Alliance (MOPA) to support the recycling and export of ocean-bound plastic waste.
BML said the record reflects its commitment to sustainability and community action, while highlighting the shared responsibility of protecting the Maldives' marine environment for future generations.
