Maldivian, the national airline, has expanded its fleet with the addition of a fourth ATR aircraft.
A special ceremony commemorating the arrival of the new airplane took place at Velana International Airport (VIA), attended by Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Mohamed Ameen and Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works Adam Shareef Umar.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Ameen highlighted the administration's proactive approach to enhance and modernise Maldivian's services, aiming to address challenges and expand flight routes to distant destinations by the year's end.
Furthermore, Minister Umar expressed pride in the new addition to Maldivian's aircraft fleet, emphasising the significance and pleasure it brings to all Maldivians.
Addressing the attendees, Managing Director of Maldivian Ibrahim Iyas outlined the strategic importance of the new aircraft in the company's growth plans. He announced the placement of orders for three additional ATR aircraft to further strengthen the fleet.
The newly introduced aircraft received a warm welcome at Velana International Airport, accompanied by traditional musical performances, a beloved cultural tradition in the Maldives.
With the addition of the new ATR aircraft, Maldivian's fleet now comprises 25 aircraft, including an Airbus A320, four ATR aircraft, nine Dash-8 series aircraft, and eleven Twin Otter seaplanes. These new ATR aircraft are slated to replace the Dash-8 series, marking a significant step forward in the fleet's modernization efforts.
