Indian troops previously stationed across three platforms in the Maldives have been redeployed back to India in accordance with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s commitment to uphold Maldives' sovereignty. This was confirmed by Spokesperson at the Indian Foreign Ministry Randir Jaiswal in a statement to the media.
Foreign newspapers have cited Jaiswal, affirming the complete withdrawal of Indian troops from Maldives, now replaced by technical civilian personnel.
President Dr. Muizzu, upon assuming office in November, underscored the paramount importance of Maldives' sovereignty and pledged to withdraw all foreign troops. Collaborative efforts between the Maldivian and Indian administrations led to the successful withdrawal of militants, culminating in an agreement to complete the process by May 10.
Indian troops, primarily engaged in maintenance work, were strategically positioned across three regions in the Maldives. Throughout March and April, a systematic redeployment process saw these troops returning home. Presently, all militants from the third platform have been withdrawn.
During their tenure, Indian troops contributed to infrastructure maintenance, leveraging helicopters and other resources generously provided by the Indian administration to the Maldives.
