Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer has acknowledged India's significant contributions to the independence and development of the Maldives.
During a press conference at the President's Office, Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer extended his appreciation for India's unwavering support towards the Maldives' independence and development journey.
Highlighting India's significant role as a close ally, Minister Zameer emphasised the longstanding support extended by India across various stages of the Maldives' development trajectory. He particularly noted India's immediate assistance following the November 3 coup attack, underscoring the pivotal role played by Indian troops at that critical time.
Addressing concerns about troop withdrawal, Minister Zameer clarified that this isn't the first instance of Indian troops being withdrawn from the Maldives, noting troops who arrived in Maldives during November 3 attack returned back to India when requested. He expressed confidence in India's continued assistance in addressing shared challenges faced by both nations.
Reflecting on his recent visit to India, Minister Zameer spoke warmly of the reception received, affirming the strength of the bilateral relationship. He reiterated the government's commitment to nurturing and strengthening the enduring ties between India and the Maldives, assuring that policies will be shaped to uphold and enhance this relationship.
