Allocation process underway for new council offices

Minister of Cities, Local Government, and Public Works Adam Shareef Umar has reaffirmed the ministry's steadfast commitment to identifying islands for the construction of new offices for island councils. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu recently announced the simultaneous construction of council offices in 50 islands.

Speaking on a programme aired on PSM News, Minister Adam Shareef stated that efforts are presently underway to determine the islands where the new offices will be built. He mentioned that a special regulation has been formulated through discussions, underscoring that the islands will be identified by the end of the month based on specific criteria.

Moreover, Minister Adam Shareef highlighted that the project will be initiated with resources obtained through free aid from China. He further emphasised that the offices will be developed with ample space and modernized resources, with plans to adapt to changing times by establishing greater human resource capabilities.

The present administration aims to establish offices of high quality, with priority given to islands that have experienced significant damage, space constraints, and population strain. The practical initiation of office development is expected to take place later this year.
