Gov't greenlights 10-storey buildings in Villimale'

The relevant regulations have been amended and gazetted to permit the construction of 10-storey buildings in Villimale’. Previously, the maximum height allowed for buildings in Villimale’ was six storeys.

This initiative aligns with a presidential pledge made by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to allow the construction of taller buildings in Villimale’, a commitment he actively pursued during his tenure as Male’ City’s Mayor.

Under the previous regulations, land plots designated for residential purposes could be built up to a maximum height of 63 feet or 19.20 meters, while those designated for non-residential purposes were limited to 61 feet or 18.5 meters.

The Ministry of Housing has now amended these regulations to allow both residential and non-residential land plots to be built up to 10 storeys. Residents currently living in Villimale’ premises can apply for permission to construct buildings up to 10 storeys high. This initiative significantly aims to modernize Villimale’ and is part of the present administration’s unwavering commitment to substantial island development.

In addition to the permission granted for high-rise buildings, a Chinese company has been awarded the development of a tertiary hospital with a bed capacity of 100 in Villimale’. The company has also been tasked with the redevelopment of roads, upgrades to water and sewage systems, and enhancements to electricity provisions in Villimale’.
