Maldives and Azerbaijan hold official talks

Maldives and Azerbaijan have held official talks on strengthening the bilateral relationship between the two countries.

The discussions took place during Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture, and Heritage Adam Naseer Ibrahim’s state visit to Azerbaijan. As part of his visit, Minister Naseer engaged in bilateral talks with Azerbaijan's Minister of Culture Adil Karimli.

Minister Naseer provided an in-depth overview of areas where the Maldives requires technical expertise and knowledge, particularly in culture and heritage, emphasising ways Azerbaijan could potentially assist in enhancing the cultural and heritage sectors of the Maldives.

Moreover, Minister Adil expressed his gratitude to Minister Naseer for representing the Maldives at the “Shusha- Cultural Capital of the Islamic World 2024” event, highlighting the rich cultural history of Shusha City. He also discussed the upcoming United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 29) to be held in Azerbaijan later this year, focusing on the impact of climate change on the cultural sector and the vital role of culture in environmental protection.

He further conveyed optimism about furthering cooperation to strengthen the cultural ties and bilateral relations between the Maldives and Azerbaijan.

Additionally, during his visit, Minister Naseer met with the Director General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) Dr. Salim Al-Malik to discuss the potential inclusion of Maldives’ coral mosque in the permanent list of ISESCO’s world heritage sites.

Minister Naseer's visit to Azerbaijan is part of a gracious invitation from the Director General of ISESCO.
