The table tennis star, Fathimath Dheema Ali has secured her position for the semi-final match from the women’s singles category, in the South Asia Regional Olympic Qualifications.
Taking part in the qualification matches held in Nepal, Dheema advanced to the finals after emerging victorious in all the group stage matches, accomplishing first place in the stage. She advanced to the semi-finals after defeating her opponent, Nabitha Shrestha from Nepal with a score of 3-4 in the quarter finals. In the semi-finals, she will be competing against Madurangi Ishara from Sri Lanka. The semi-final match will determine the player who is qualified for the Olympics.
In addition to Dheema, Mishka Mohamed Ibrahim, Moosa Musnif Ahmed and Akhyar Ahmed Khalid also represented the Maldives in the South Asia Regional Olympic Qualifications. While Mishka suffered defeat in all the four sets in the quarter-finals of the women’s single category, Akhyar experienced defeat in the three group stage matches. Meanwhile, Musnif emerged victorious in one group stage match, however loosing in the following three matches.
