Managing Director of Maldive Gas Abdulla Mohamed has revealed plans to establish a cooking gas storage system by the end of the year, enabling storage for five months' supply.
Speaking to PSM News, Abdulla highlighted the current limitations, noting that the existing storage capacity for liquid petroleum gas (LPG) is only 35 days, necessitating frequent and costly purchases. To address this, he said that a new design has been prepared, and funding arrangements are underway to expand the storage capacity.
Additionally, Abdulla stated that the new system, which will allow for five months of storage, is expected to be operational by the end of the year, with completion anticipated within 6-9 months. He also said that the expansion aims to mitigate supply issues, even amidst geopolitical instability in the Middle East.
Furthermore, Abdulla said that efforts are being made to operationalise the gas plant in Thinadhoo, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, by next year. He said the initiative aims to reduce cooking gas prices in the southern atolls and improve service efficiency. He also said that land has been allocated for a new distribution centre in Hulhumale' Phase II and for the construction of a company office building in Hulhumale' Phase I.
