Minister of Finance Dr. Mohamed Shafeeq has revealed that the increase in administrative expenditures were due to the provision of financial assistance for public works and the projects and initiatives of state-owned enterprises. The remarks were made by the minister during the inaugural ceremony of the Workshop on Strengthening the General Works of Administrative Areas.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Dr. Shafeeq underscored the crucial role of public workers in creating a comfortable and peaceful environment for the society. The minister highlighted the momentousness of public works to ensure housing facilities and healthy environment for the society, as pledged by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
Furthermore, Minister Dr. Shafeed disclosed the high level of cost incurred to enhance public works and projects ongoing with the assistance of government companies. The minister explained that the projects entrusted to companies with no regard to the budget and the profit motive of state-owned enterprises contributed to the significant increase in expenditures. Stressing that the costs incurred were constraints to the government, he urged state-owned companies to utilise cost-effective measures and to be more efficient.
Additionally, Minister Dr. Shafeeq emphasised the necessity of integrity and care in all works involving the rights of the people, the welfare of the society and the government. The minister further signified the importance of strengthening public works.
