Gov’t invites bids for tourism development

The Ministry of Tourism has opened bids for the development of several islands and lagoons, aiming to expand tourism opportunities in the Maldives.

The newly available bids comprise 14 islands and three lagoons across 11 atolls, offering diverse locations for resort development. These locations include:

  • Vaikaramuraidhoo in Haa Dhaalu Atoll (15 hectares)
  • Kudalhaimendhoo in Shaviyani Atoll
  • Dhikkuredhdhoo in Raa Atoll
  • Dhiffushi in Lhaviyani Atoll
  • Vihafaru Finolhu in Lhaviyani Atoll
  • Hihmiyya Falhu in Kaafu Atoll
  • Lagoon in Kaafu Atoll
  • Alikoi Rah in Alif Alif Atoll
  • Lagoon in Vaavu Atoll
  • Gaalee in Thaa Atoll
  • Ruththibirah in Thaa Atoll
  • Kanimeedhoo in Thaa Atoll
  • Kashidhoo in Laamu Atoll
  • Hanhushi in Laamu Atoll
  • Beyru Maudoo in Gaafu Alifu Atoll
  • Kalhehutta in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll

Among the highlighted sites are Vaikaramuraidhoo in Haa Dhaalu Atoll and Hihmiyya Falhu in Kaafu Atoll, with acquisition costs reaching USD 23.5 million and USD 18.5 million, respectively.

Interested parties can access the proposal details on the ministry’s website and submit their applications accordingly.

In line with the administration's vision, efforts are underway to boost tourism development across all atolls in the Maldives. The government is actively supporting investors in completing unfinished resorts, which are also available for bids to further enhance tourism infrastructure.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to initiate the development of at least 20 resorts nationwide this year, reflecting the commitment to advancing tourism growth in the Maldives.
