"Ibama" introduced to Meemu Atoll

The government led initiative, "Ijuthimaaee Badhahi Madhadhuverin" (Ibama), has been launched in Meemu Atoll, aiming for expansion to all inhabited islands in the nation. Ibama focuses on bolstering social security through a meticulous monitoring system and collaboration with relevant administrative bodies.

The Ministry of Social and Family Development has initiated training programs for Ibama, starting with Meemu Atoll. These sessions mark the inception of a revamped program framework, emphasising a strengthened approach.

Conducted in Muli, Meemu Atoll, a three-day training programme drew 34 participants from six atoll islands. The programme elucidated the purpose of Ibama groups, delineated responsibilities and roles of members, and outlined key considerations for providing social security services. Participants also gained insights into assessing vulnerable populations and devising strategic interventions to enhance their living conditions.

Following the training, the Ibama team in Muli, along with newly trained members, will embark on visits to vulnerable households across the islands. They will initiate the process of crafting comprehensive assistance plans. Fieldwork is slated to commence in six Meemu Atoll islands within the week.

Remarkably, a dedicated department within the Ministry of Social and Family Development oversees Ibama. It facilitates the establishment of Ibama groups, monitors their activities, and provides necessary support. Moreover, efforts are currently underway to establish databases encompassing resources and services on all islands.

Presently, the Ibama programme operates in the islands of 12 atolls and three cities across the Maldives.
