The Ministry of Health has clarified that the previous government announced the establishment of seven hospitals before securing funds from the Kuwait Fund. This announcement was made to inform that funds are now available as part of the Kuwait Fund, highlighting the previous administration's efforts to develop hospitals with this assistance.
The previous government had planned to establish seven hospitals with the help of the Kuwait Fund and had awarded contracts for two of these hospitals. They also claimed to have arranged USD 11.68 million for the project. However, during the completion ceremony of the renovation of the Male' Atoll Health Center in Thulusdhoo, Minister of State for Health Ahmed Qasim revealed that the funds had not actually been arranged as previously claimed.
Moreover, Qasim emphasised that since President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu took office, active efforts have been made to secure funds for the establishment of the seven hospitals. He further reiterated that through the diligent efforts of the current administration, funds have now been successfully arranged for this development.
Qasim also stated that administrative work for the hospital development project is currently underway. As part of this project, one of the hospitals will be established in Thulusdhoo in Kaafu Atoll with the support of the Kuwait Fund. Until the new hospital is fully operational, the administration is committed to upgrading the existing health center to provide better services to the people.
The renovation of the Male’ Atoll Health Center was conducted under the social responsibility initiative of the Island Council. The renovation included the enlargement of wards and the laboratory, as well as the installation of air conditioning, enhancing the facility's capacity to serve the community effectively.
