Group of Somalians drifts to uninhabited island in Noonu Atoll

Maldives Police Service (MPS) has reported that a group of individuals from Somalia, have drifted to an uninhabited island in Noonu Atoll.

MPS disclosed that the three Somalian men drifted to Vavathi, Noonu Atoll, on June 22. Vavathi is an uninhabited island which is primarily utilised for agricultural purposes, is situated near Velaa Private Island Resort. The police confirmed that the three individuals are currently in custody, and investigations into the matter are ongoing. Incidents involving groups of Somalian individuals drifting to the Maldives have previously occurred.

Somalia, situated in East Africa, has a coastline known for its hazards, including numerous incidents of piracy.
