President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has congratulated KP Sharma Oli following his appointment as the Prime Minister of Nepal.
In a post shared on social media, President Dr, Muizzu stated that the Maldives and Nepal enjoy close people-to-people connections. He also said that he looks forward to working closely with Prime Minister Oli to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
Oli, who heads the moderate Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist Leninist), was administered the oath of office by President Ram Chandra Paudel, three days after his predecessor Pushpa Kamal Dahal lost a parliamentary vote of confidence.
Nepal has been politically unstable since it abolished a 239-year-old monarchy in 2008. Oli's new government will be the 14th since that time.
Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Nepal were established on August 1, 1980.
