Managing Director of Road Development Corporation Limited (RDC) Brigadier General (rtd) Ali Zuhair has revealed the road developmental projects of at least four islands are expected to be completed by the end of the year. This includes initiatives commenced by RDC under the previous administration. The management of the corporation reported that during the transition between administrations, RDC was contracted for a total of 27 road development projects.
Speaking to PSM News, Managing Director Ali Zuhair disclosed that 17 of the contracted projects had been delayed for over seven months. Nevertheless, all projects have now resumed and are being executed in various phases. He also revealed that with the given pace, some projects will be completed by the end of this year.
Furthermore, the managing director disclosed that the road developmental works in Thinadhoo City and Milandhoo, Shaviyani Atoll, were nearing completion. Additionally, Zuhair highlighted the roads of Hulhudhuffaaru, Raa Atoll and Maamigili, Alif Dhaalu Atoll are undergoing asphalt pavement installation, ensuring that the projects in these islands will be completed within this year. He further revealed that the road developmental projects in Velidhoo, Noonu Atoll and Gadhdhoo, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, will also be completed by the year-end.
While several problems related to RDC have surfaced in recent months, the corporation has been presented to the Parliament's Committee on State-Owned Enterprises. During the session, sensitive information was disclosed regarding the corporation's financial status, the number of stalled projects, and procurement-related challenges. RDC also have revealed that efforts are underway to create an internal audit for the corporation.
