VP says individual responsibility vital to ensure road safety

Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef has underscored the pivotal role personal responsibility plays to ensure the safety and security of the roads. The remarks were made by the vice president in his address at the closing ceremony of the 100th Traffic Monitors Programme. Launched in 2014 under the "Rakkaa Campaign," the programme aims to raise public awareness about traffic and road safety.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice President Latheef stated that several initiatives have been launched under the recommendation of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu adding that these efforts are designed to enhance road security and safety. The vice president emphasised the crucial importance of individual responsibility in maintaining a safe environment in the roads. He noted that adherence to traffic laws and proper road etiquette by all individuals is crucial for guaranteeing road safety.

Certificates were awarded to the students who completed the training and to those who assisted in the programme. Targeting students in grades six to eight, the programme is conducted by the Maldives Police Service (MPS). To date, over 3,000 students have successfully completed it.

The event commemorating the tenth year since its inauguration was graced by the presence of Vice President Latheef. The closing ceremony was attended by the Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau, Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan and the Mayor of Fuvahmulah City Ismail Rafeeq.
