Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer has stated that this is the time in which Maldives-India relations are the strongest. The remarks were made by the minister at an interview, after the Minister of External affairs of India Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar concluded his official visit to the Maldives.
Speaking to PSM News, Minister Zameer underscored that the bilateral ties between the two nations is very strong, following President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's official visit to India, and India's external minister's visit to the Maldives. Highlighting that both the trips played a crucial role in enhancing the bilateral relations, the minister noted that this was the first official visit of Minister Dr. Jaishankar, after being elected for a new term.
Furthermore, Minister Zameer revealed that he received an important message from India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi, reaffirming India's commitment to assist and support the Maldives. The minister expressed confidence that the positive impacts of the Maldives-India relations are being observed continuously. He also disclosed plans to strengthen bilateral ties with other nations, which will benefit the Maldives. He shed light on the foreign policy utilised by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, stating that it was the most beneficial policy for the residents.
Highlighting the long-standing relations between the Maldives and India, Minister Zameer recognised that India has provided support and assistance to the Maldives in all the previous administrations. The minister stated that the government has realigned some loans under agreements between the two states previously, such that it benefit Maldivians. He also noted that efforts are underway to expedite the ongoing developmental projects as well.
