Gov’t to hold seminar on tourism development in southernmost atolls

Ministry of Tourism has disclosed that the government will be holding a seminar on tourism development in the southernmost atolls of the country. The seminar named the South Tourism Development Symposium 2024 will concentrate on tourism development in Huvadhu Atoll, Fuvahmulah City and Addu City.

Noting that the government will be giving high priority to developing tourism in the southern atoll, Tourism Ministry stated that work is underway to hold consultation meetings with industry stakeholders. The ministry aims to hold the seminar at the Manhattan Business School.

The ministry stated that the objective of the seminar is to bring together relevant stakeholders and experts in the field to discuss ways to increase tourist arrivals to the region by focusing on international connectivity to Huvadhu Atoll, Fuvahmulah City and Addu City. It notes that this will identify the challenges facing the development and expansion of tourism in the south.

The seminar will also identify possible measures to be taken and efforts being made by the government to facilitate the formulation of a short- and medium-term plan. The seminar will be attended by tourism service providers, developers, international airline operators, travel agencies, associations, councils of the southern provinces and various government ministries.
