Gov't to hand over Gulhifalhu land plots after site is vacated

Minister of Housing, Land, and Urban Development Dr. Ali Haidar Ahmed has said the land plots allocated from Gulhifalhu by the previous government will be handed over only after the site currently used for constructing the Thilamale' Bridge is vacated and the land is reclaimed. He made the remarks while responding to inquiries from parliamentarians.

Speaking at the Parliament, Minister Haidar criticised the previous government for allocating land irresponsibly. He said that the current administration is working on reclaiming Gulhifalhu, emphasising an additional 85 hectares of land needs to be reclaimed before any allocation can take place. He also said area is presently being used for the Thilamale' Bridge construction, with the site expected to be vacated by September of the following year.

Additionally, Minister Haidar said the government has developed a land use plan for Gulhifalhu and land from Hulhumale' Phase II has been allocated from areas where equipment is currently stored for various projects. He noted after addressing these issues, 623 out of 1,407 plots have already been handed over, with the remaining plots expected to be distributed by October. He also said 699 plots have been allocated in Hulhumale' Phase III.

Furthermore, Minister Haidar highlighted the previous government had allocated land to 5,186 individuals in Giraavarufalhu. He also assured the land would be handed over to anyone who was allocated a plot.
