President expresses desire for a peaceful and positive election in Lanka

Speaker of Parliament of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana, has paid a courtesy call on President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. The meeting was held at the President's Office.

Welcoming the Speaker to the Maldives President Muizzu noted the long-standing friendly relations between the Maldives and Sri Lanka. During the meeting, the President expressed his desire for a peaceful Presidential election, and positive results that would contribute to the development and prosperity of Sri Lanka.

Speaker Abeywardana arrived in Maldives for an official visit on August 11. As part of his visit, he met with the Speaker of the Maldivian Parliament, Abdul Raheem Abdullah and held discussions on strengthening legislation work.

The Maldives established diplomatic relations with Sri Lanka on July 26, 1965, immediately after the Maldives gained independence.
