President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has extended heartfelt greetings and best wishes to India's President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and all Indian citizens, on the occasion of India's 78th Independence Day. The president also extended his best wishes for the India's president and prime minister's good health and well-being, as well as for further progress and prosperity for the people of India.
In separate letters sent to President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Modi, President Dr. Muizzu stated that India continues to be an invaluable partner in the development of the Maldives. The president shed light on the long-standing partnership, based on mutual respect and trust, noting that it has evolved into a close and cooperative friendship that has been instrumental in advancing the development and prosperity of the Maldives.
The Maldives-India relations have continued to be strong, and India is one of the closest allies of the Maldives. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu attended the swearing in ceremony of Prime Minister Modi in June, revealing the strong ties between the two nations. In his official visit to India, the president held comprehensive discussions with India's president and prime minister as well.
Furthermore, President Dr. Muizzu recognised and expressed sincere appreciation for India's unwavering support and assistance to the Maldives. The president reaffirmed the Maldivian government's full commitment to strengthening the historic relations between the two countries.
The Independence Day of India is celebrated annually on August 15. It commemorates India's freedom from British colonial rule for more than 200 years on August 15, 1947.
