20th parliament's first session concludes with 82.9% work completion

The first session of the 20th Parliament has concluded with members going on leave after completing significant legislative work from May 28 to August 22. The Parliament Secretariat has released a detailed report highlighting the accomplishments and remaining tasks.

During this session, 23 bills were introduced, out of which 11 were completed while 12 remain in committee. In addition, 13 cases submitted by the Speaker, 9 cases submitted by the government, and 9 emergency cases were completed. The parliament also addressed 9 reports related to other issues and proposed 12 questions to ministers. Overall, 82.9% of the work scheduled for the session was completed, with a total of 76 tasks finished and 63 cases left pending. The session held 33 meetings, spanning 75 hours in total.

Notably, several key bills were passed during this session, including the Decentralisation of Administrative Areas Act Amendment Bill, the Local Councils Election Act Amendment Bill, the Tourism Act Amendment Bill, the Employment Act Amendment Bill, the Foreign Investment Bill, the Financial Securities Act Amendment Bill, the Health Care Act Amendment Bill, the Legal Profession Act Amendment Bill, and the Infrastructure Planning and Management Bill.

The second session of the 20th Parliament is set to commence in October, with the first meeting likely to be held on either October 3 or 7, stated Deputy Speaker Ahmed Nazim.
