Opportunity opens for unregistered vehicles to comply with laws

The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has said it is providing an opportunity for illegally unregistered vehicles in the Greater Male' Region to comply with existing laws and regulations.

In a statement, the ministry announced that any vehicles driving or parked on main roads without proper registration, as required by the Road Traffic Act, or those registered in other zones, will be prohibited from operating in Zone A. To enforce this, the ministry and relevant agencies have arranged temporary parking for such vehicles at Lot No. 452 in Hulhumale'.

Additionally, the ministry said that vehicles that are being driven or owned illegally in the capital, Male' City, must be moved to the designated parking area as soon as possible. The ministry has urged vehicle owners to take advantage of this opportunity and complete all necessary procedures promptly in accordance with the Road Traffic Act. It also said that failure to comply with the notice will result in prosecution under the Act.

The initiative is part of the ministry's efforts to reduce illegal driving in Male' City and Hulhumale', as well as to address congestion and traffic issues in the area. A vacant plot adjacent to the MACL flats in Hulhumale' Phase II has been allocated for parking these vehicles. Speaking to the media, Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Mohamed Ameen said that the land will not be used to allow illegal vehicles to operate in Male'. These measures aim to resolve vehicle-related issues and ensure compliance with regulations. Currently, more than 1,200 four-wheelers are illegally registered in Male'.
