United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC)'s Global Maritime Crime Programme has donated maritime security equipment to the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF)'s Coast Guard. The equipments were funded by the European Union Service for Foreign Policy Instruments.
In the ceremony held to hand over the donations in the Maritime Rescue Donation Centre based in Vilimale', the equipment was handed over by the Head of Office of UNODC Maldives Enrico Boninsegna. The equipments were received by Coast Guards Commandant Brigadier General Mohamed Saleem.
MNDF's Coast Guard has expressed confidence that the equipments will enhance the security and actions taken against maritime terrorism activities near the Special Economic Zones of Maldives (SEZ).
