Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Mohamed Ameen has disclosed that the ministry will be relocating the vertical parking systems developed in the first phase of Hulhumale’ to the second phase of Hulhumale’. The minister also stated that the parking systems previously under the control of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) have now been transferred to the ministry.
Noting that the parking systems would be moved to the land acquired by the ministry from Phase Two, Minister Ameen stated that work is underway to commence the transferring process. He also added that the systems would be opened for parking at a very low price, once it is moved.
The vertical mechanical parking systems were installed in 2017, to provide a modern solution to the increase in the use of vehicles in Hulhumale’. Even though seven such systems were installed, none of them were being used. Two of these systems have now been handed over to the Maldives Police Service.
As part of the government’s efforts to solve the growing issue of congestion it has allocated a land of 90,000 acres from Hulhumale’ Phase One for four-wheeler vehicle parking. Currently, work is ongoing to clear the area and level the ground as well as harden it to make parking convenient.
