Maldives and India hold discussions on accelerating Thilamale' Bridge works

Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Dr. Abdulla Muththalib has attended a high-level meeting on the scheduled completion of the Thilamale' Bridge Project during his visit to India.

Minister Dr. Muththalib co-chaired the 12th Joint Project Monitoring Committee meeting on the Thilamale' Bridge, alongside High Commissioner of India to the Maldives Munu Mahawar, . The meeting also included officials from various Maldivian ministries, Ministry of External Affairs of India, Exim Bank of India, and the contractors and consultants of the project.

The meeting focused on ensuring the timely completion of the bridge, emphasising the importance of accelerating progress. The construction ministry said that a total of 43.59% of the project has been completed, with a targeted completion date of March 31, 2026. The overall project is scheduled for completion by September 30, 2026, though the government aims to finish it by late 2025 or early 2026. The 6.7 km bridge, which will connect four regions, has a budget exceeding USD 500 million.

During his visit, Minister Dr. Muththalib toured the Additionally Driven Intermediate Tunnel (ADIT) in Mumbai, a 7.1 km undersea tunnel. The ministry also said the visit to India will provide experiences in implementing projects in the Maldives.
