President of the Bar Council of the Maldives Hussain Siraj has revealed that the Bar Council faces budget constraints to enhance the quality of lawyers.
In an interview with PSM News, Siraj emphasised the Bar Councils efforts of increasing the quality and upskilling its lawyers. As such, he revealed that the phases of issuing permits to lawyers were increased, aiming to ensure that individuals receive quality services from lawyers.
Highlighting that the field of law constantly changes, Siraj underscored the Bar Council's commitment to seek training opportunities for lawyers, in collaboration with international expertise. However, he stressed that the council faces challenges in seeking such opportunities due to the budget constraints.
Underscoring the necessity of quality lawyers to ensure justice and peace, Siraj urged new lawyers and those who have been working in the field for a long time, to participate in activities organised by the Bar Council. He also called onto lawyers for collective action, to ensure that the field remains uncorrupt and earn the trust of residents.
