Maldives and AIIB discuss AIIB pre-feasibility study for Thilafushi-UTF bridge project

Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Dr. Abdulla Muththalib has held discussions with senior officials of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) Mission, focusing on the pre-feasibility study for the Thilafushi to Uthuru Thila Falhu (UTF) to Giraavaru via a bridge. This major infrastructure initiative is expected to drive economic growth and strengthen regional integration in the Maldives.

The bridge project, envisioned to enhance connectivity between Thilafushi and UTF, aligns with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s vision for national development. He has set a target to begin construction by 2026. The bridge will also connect to the UTF, where the Agriculture Economic Zone Project is currently in progress, contributing to the nation's broader economic strategy.

The discussions underscored the bridge's potential to transform transportation and logistics in the region, positioning it as a critical piece of infrastructure that will support sustainable growth and improve livelihoods.

With AIIB’s expertise and support, the pre-feasibility study will lay the groundwork for what is expected to be a landmark project in the Maldives' development journey.
