Taxi licenses to be issued to vehicles registered at a taxi centre

The government has revealed that the Taxi Regulations have been amended to require that any vehicle issued a taxi license must be registered with a licensed taxi center.

The current Taxi Regulations, which took effect in 2022, initially mandated that vehicles applying for taxi licenses be registered with a licensed taxi center. However, the requirement was removed in an amendment made on September 18 last year. Previously, applicants were required to submit documentation proving that the vehicle was listed in a taxi center when applying for a license. The requirement was eliminated with last year’s amendment, but as of the most recent amendment on September 17, the condition has been reinstated.

Under the amended Taxi Regulations, a taxi license will be granted to vehicles that meet roadworthiness standards and are covered by third-party insurance, after the payment of an annual fee.
