President describes interactive dialogue crucial to expand Maldives’ digital economy

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has emphasised that co-chairing the 3rd Interactive Dialogue at the Summit of the Future, held prior to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), presents a vital opportunity to enhance the Maldives’ digital economy. He highlighted the its significance in an interview following the dialogue.

Titled “Towards the Common Digital Future,” the dialogue was co-chaired by the Maldives and Estonia, offering a platform to elevate the Maldives’ presence on the international stage.

With officials from approximately 190 UN member states in attendance, President Muizzu pointed out that three-quarters of the global population remains offline, resulting in substantial disparities in development, opportunities, and justice. He urged governments to develop policies that address these gaps in digital access, ensuring that no nation is left behind.

President Muizzu proposed three key actions for inclusive innovation and cooperation. He called for prioritising initiatives that empower youth to engage in the digital economy and stressed the need for robust digital infrastructure. The President also highlighted the importance of safeguarding consumer rights amid challenges like data privacy and account security.

Urging for international cooperation and partnerships to address these issues, the President reaffirmed the Maldives' commitment to an inclusive, resilient, and equitable digital future.
