President offers condolences to Nepal amid flood and landslide tragedy

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has expressed his sympathy and condolences to Nepal following the recent floods and landslides that caused significant devastation.

In a message on social media, he shared his sadness over the tragic events that led to loss of life and injuries. He offered heartfelt condolences to Nepali Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and the families of the victims, wishing a swift recovery for the injured and hoping for the safe return of those still missing.

President Muizzu emphasized that Nepal is both a neighbour and a friend to the Maldives, affirming the Maldives' steadfast support during this difficult period.

Incessant rains in Nepal had unleashed floods and landslides that took many lives. Most rivers in the Himalayan nation spilled over roads and bridges. Some parts of the capital reported rain of up to 322.2 mm (12.7 inches), pushing the level of its main Bagmati river up 2.2 m (7 ft) past the danger mark, experts said.
