Session held to help young people plan their financial future

A special session aimed at helping young people plan their financial future and learn about retirement pension opportunities has been held.

The session, titled “Future Foundations”, was conducted jointly by the Maldives Pension Administration Office and the Family Protection Authority (FPA).

More than 19 young people participated in the session.

The session was specifically designed for young people preparing to enter the workforce, as well as those who have recently begun their careers. It provided information on healthy relationships and financial literacy, with a key focus on equipping participants with practical knowledge to plan their future with greater foresight from a young age.

As part of the session, under the theme “Secure Tomorrow: Understanding Personal Finances and Planning Ahead”, participants were provided with information on setting financial goals, budgeting, credit and debt, saving and investing. Information was also shared on investment opportunities available in the Maldives, compound returns, and ways in which saving and investing can help individuals achieve their financial goals.

In addition, participants were given basic information about the Maldives Retirement Pension Scheme (MRPS). The session highlighted the importance of starting retirement planning as early as possible in order to ensure financial security in the future.

During the segment conducted by the Family Protection Authority, participants were also briefed on the importance of maintaining healthy relationships, treating others well and respecting one another. Information was further provided on building strong social connections and making decisions that can contribute to a better future.

Increasing financial literacy is an important objective of the Pension Office. To achieve this objective, the Office continues to conduct programmes tailored to the needs of people at different stages of life, from young people through to older adults. The Pension Office stated that further sessions of this nature will be conducted to encourage informed financial decision-making and emphasise the importance of planning for retirement as early as possible.
