MFDA confirms no problematic Indian medicines imported to Maldives

The Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has stated that Indian medicines identified with quality issues have not been imported into the Maldives.

In a recent statement, the MFDA reported being notified of quality concerns regarding 48 products manufactured by Indian companies. In response, the authority conducted a market evaluation to assess the import status of these medicines.

While one of the medicines on the list is licensed for import, the MFDA confirmed that no batches have entered the Maldives since 2018. Furthermore, none of the controversial medicines have been imported under any circumstances.

The MFDA has urged the public to exercise caution when purchasing medicines, especially since many Maldivians travel to India for medical treatment and sometimes bring back medicines for personal use. As a precaution, the MFDA has increased inspections at medicine import ports to prevent the entry of any problematic products.
